City of Zagreb

    City of Zagreb - Like many other capital cities, the City of Zagreb is a separate administrative unit - county, and a distinct tourist region. Few are the European metropolis able to boast such an abundance and variety of attractive landscapes and preserved natural environments in its immediate vicinity as Zagreb, the capital of Croatia.

Adjacent to the city, extending into its central area is Medvednica Nature Park on its northern edges.  Extending along the southern and eastern limits of Zagreb is the valley of the River Sava, and within, lovely picturesque villages, while at the south western edges of the city area, all the way to the River Kupa are the green winegrowing hills of Vukomericke Gorice.
Amidst all this greenery the key site is Medvednica, a unique example of an almost fully preserved natural environment encompassed within a large city. The Medvednica mountain massif is covered by dense forests of beech, oak, and chestnut and is the most favorite excursion destination for the citizens of Zagreb and their guests. One of the most popular places on Medvednica are the ruins of the medieval town of Medvedgrad, but most people visit its peak, Sljeme.


Zagreb is an important travel destination; the city has great potential as first destination for lot of tourists which visit Croatia and go further to visit the beaches along the Croatian Adriatic coast and old historic cities such as Dubrovnik, Split, Pula and Zadar.

The historical part of the city to the north of Ban Jelacic Square is composed of Kaptol and the Gornji Grad, a medieval complex of palaces, churches, museums, galleries and government buildings which are popular with tourists. The historic city centre can be reached on foot, starting from Ban Jelacic Square, the center of Zagreb, or by a cable car on Tomiceva Street.
